Preserving Spare Parts: Bearings 

Materials:

• Project approved heat sealable VCI Anti-Corrosion Film
• Project approved cleaner/degreaser
• Desiccant
• Propane or Electric Heat Shrink Gun
• Heat shrink tape

Procedure:

1. Remove/clean any surface rust using project approved cleaner/degreaser
2. Cut and line VCI film in the bottom of storage crate.  Leave enough VCI film to cover the top of the bearing…like you would if you were wrapping a Christmas present.
3. Place desiccant bag Inside crate and begin to “wrap” the bearing
4. Use heat gun to evenly apply heat across the VCI film.  The VCI shrink film will begin to shrink/become tight.  Heat Shrink Tape can be used to secure the folds of the VCI shrink film during the shrink-wrapping process
5. Complete
