Piping Asset Preservation for Beveled Pipe Spools

Pipe spool cleanliness is the backbone of project throughput. Whether you are managing rotating equipment connections or process-critical stainless steel, P3 provides the tools to eliminate bevel corrosion and internal contamination. Beveled ends are the most vulnerable part of a spool. Standard plastic "push-on" caps often trap moisture against the bare metal, accelerating rust. Furthermore, open pipe ends are magnets for Foreign Object Debris (FOD), water, and wildlife, which can lead to catastrophic system failures during commissioning.

This creates a barrier that keeps the ID (Internal Diameter) clean and the bevel surface pristine, regardless of how long the spool sits in the staging yard.

Materials:

• pipeCOVER
• pcTAPE
• Leaf Blower
• Project approved rust remover
• Soft Bristle wire brush
• Paint brush
• Weldable Primer-If approved in welding specification

Preservation Procedure:

1. Internal Clearing: Utilize a leaf blower or compressed air to remove all loose debris and residual hydro-test water from the spool.
2. Surface Prep: Inspect the bevel for any existing flash rust. Use a project-approved rust remover and soft bristle wire brush to return the surface to a bright metal finish.
3. Weldable Primer: If specified, apply a thin layer of weldable primer to the beveled edge to prevent oxidation during long-term storage.
4. The P3 Seal:

   1. Select the appropriately sized pipeCOVER™.

   2. Secure the pipe cover on the outside using pcTAPE™. Apply tape around the circumference and over the back of the cover to ensure a heavy-duty, weather-resistant seal.

5. Dunnage Staging: Ensure all spools are stored on dunnage at a minimum height of 4–6 inches to avoid contact with ground moisture and mud.
