P3-GIT - Quickly Identify Damage on Raised Face Flanges

The P3-GIT™ is a quick, simple, and easy-to-use tool designed to help identify visible damage within the critical gasket sealing area of a raised face flange.No specialized flange inspection knowledge is required to perform an initial check. Simply place the P3-GIT over the raised face and use the cut-out window to identify whether visible damage is present where the gasket will sit during final bolt-up.

A Simple First Step in Flange Inspection

The P3-GIT is designed to make initial flange-face inspection easier for field personnel, fabricators, construction teams, and other employees who may encounter exposed flanges during a project.

The cut-out window represents the critical gasket sealing area of the raised face flange. If visible damage is identified within this area, the flange or asset should be flagged and referred to the appropriate Quality Control personnel for further evaluation.

The P3-GIT does not measure the depth or severity of flange-face damage and does not replace a thorough Quality Control inspection. Instead, it provides a simple way to quickly identify potential problems before the flange reaches final assembly.

How to Use the P3-GIT

1. CLEAN
Clean the flange face and remove dirt, debris, gasket residue, coatings, and other foreign material that could interfere with the inspection.

2. CHECK
Place the P3-GIT on the raised face of the flange and slowly move it along the edge. The cut-out window represents the gasket sealing area.

3. IDENTIFY
Look for visible scratches, gouges, dents, pitting, corrosion, or other damage within the cut-out window.

4. FLAG
If damage is identified within the gasket sealing area, flag the flange or asset for Quality Control review. Damage in this area would typically prevent the flange from passing inspection without further evaluation, repair, or disposition.

5. QC/ FIELD ENGINEER INSPECTION
Quality Control or field engineer personnel perform the more thorough inspection and determine the appropriate disposition based on the applicable project specifications, standards, and acceptance criteria.

6. PROTECT
Once the flange has been inspected and its condition addressed, protect the sealing surface from additional damage, contamination, and environmental exposure or reface the flange if damage is severe.
